7/23/2023 0 Comments Most common photo print sizes![]() And then there are pseudo-ISO sizes like "A3+" which as far as I can tell is the ANSI (i.e. folks at least talk about 10x15cm, which is close to (just a bit smaller than) our 4圆 inches, and 6x8 inches. Of course, those sizes are comparatively rare in the U.S., and far from universal for photo prints elsewhere. The common 'international letter-size' or A4 paper is about 210x297mm. The ISO A-series paper sizes have an aspect ratio of the square root of 2, i.e., about 1.41:1. This is the aspect ratio of the A sizes of paper. ![]() I'm across the aspect ratios for web publishing & social, but how about for printing ? They may want to use one aspect ration for viewing online, a different one for prints. Just send the uncropped images and let them do whatever they want. So I'm home now and looking forward to doing some processing, but not sure of what the girls will even do with them. When aiming to give the client what they want, and shooting wide will allow that. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've left plenty of room for cropping. If the client pays for the digital package, I actually take the original picture and create a digital 4圆, 5x7 and 8x10 aspect ratio file and give the client all 3 versions. I offer the common frame sizes 4圆, 5x7 and 8x10. I shoot portraits and offer to have them printed. They may have a picture frame already in mind. If printing, let them decide what they want. IMHO, ask the client you are giving the picture to. So I'm asking myself 'is there a standard', or is it 'whatever the processer decides' ? Here, common frame sizes are 4圆, 8x10 and I sometimes see 5x7 frames. 2:3, although 4x5.33 inches to match typical phone and point-and-shoot cameras (4:3) are more common than they used to be. drugstore or big-box store are most of 4圆 inches i.e. Of course, small and cheap 'standard' prints at a U.S. The standard sizes of 8x10, 16x20, and 24x30 inches are exactly 4:5, the standard size of 11x14 inches is quite close to 4:5 (actually 4:5.091), and the standard size of 20x24 inches is pretty close to 4:5 (actually 4:4.8). But in the U.S., for medium and larger print sizes, 4:5 is by far the most common aspect ratio. Also, what is common varies between smaller and larger prints. What is common or even widely-available varies country to country. So I'm asking myself 'is there a standard', or is it 'whatever the processer decides' ? I'm not ashamed to admit that I've left plenty of room for cropping. The big-box office & print stores here seem to offer several print sizes, and the following ratios Is there a 'most common' aspect ratio for prints these days ? I would like to settle on just one, and crop for both landscape and portrait orientation. Haven't thought about doing portraits before today, but my general mindset when going out with the camera is to roll with whatever presents itself, even if it was unplanned. Earlier today I was at a public garden to try and compose some Japanese-style scenes, and ended up shooting a couple of girls (full consent - I offered, they accepted).
